How we feel an emotion?
and how does a country express it? Every country, every people, has a way at looking at things and expressing them. The same situation can be seen and more importantly felt differently by different people, different communities. Proverbs give us a very acute insight of a people's viewpoint and correctly indicate things to which they give importance. Like the French say: Les proverbes sont la sagesse d'un pays Its translation may be: Wisdom of a country can be seen through its proverbs. |
However proverbs can't be literally translated. They have a more figurative and imaginative expression.
Lets take for example the French proverb: Loin des yeux, loin du coeur Its literal translation may be: out of sight, out of heart However, the equivalent English proverb does not talk of "heart" but of "mind" as the English proverb says: Out of sight, out of mind. We have tried to bring this out in the slide show that you see above. The two proverbs make two different visuals. |

The challenge isFind a French expression, find its equivalent (and not its translation) in English or even better if you find it in your own vernacular Indian language.
Next step is to prepare one/two visual(s) depicting the two proverbs. You may choose to draw, paint, use digital tools etc. Find more details below. |
